Thursday Escorting

My Thursday started with an early escorting shift. I was away for more than two weeks, and since I was just back and had just started a new job, I was unsure whether I could fit in escorting. But then I learned that I could come to the coworking space (more on that later), which meant I would start my workday at a normal time, and the problem was solved.

It turned out that several unexpected things happened while I was away, including a new brick wall in place of the south exit of Ogilvie Station (if I had known, I would have sent my Starbucks order to the Clinton location), and I was a bit late. By the time I approached the corner of W.Washington and DesPlains, a crowd of antis was already there.

It quickly turned into one of those days when there are way fewer of “us” than “them”, and we have to be very fast to get to the patients’ cars first and make sure we provide protection and have time to notify patients that they can be filmed. And, to be honest, in general, it feels horrible when we are twice outnumbered, and they are so loud and confident. It totally feels like the world is going backward.

They take position very close to the clinic entrance
And they put their people on the other side of the street by the parking lot, to contact patiencts there
And they mounting a camera to film patients
.. but we are out there!
