So Proud of Our School District!

This is our school district – Community Consolidated District 15, and I am so proud of the work of its’ staff! It is not just in Chicago, but in Palatine as well, that lots of children depend on breakfasts and lunches at school. And when schools are closed, the school district delivers!

  1. I do not know how you guys feed the underprivileged kids in the UK, but that is not a joke. School closings create a very real problem. It was immediately addressed in the city and the plan for food service was announced simultaneously with the closing announcement. But many people think that the suburbs are somehow in a better position, which is not true.

  2. So sorry to have upset you. I meant no harm. I didn’t realise until too late I might have made a mistake.
School meals in England is a hot topic here. Parents must find things hard.

Under normal circumstances, schools are not expected to provide free school meals to eligible children who are not attending due to illness or if the school is closed.
However, during the COVID-19 outbreak, we (Government) expect schools to provide support to these children if the school is: only open for certain groups, closed. With vouchers or parcels.

  3. I know you meant no harm! It’s just a hot topic here as well. In the city, many schools have up to 98% of students eligible for free or reduced-pay lunches. Also, there is a substantial percentage of students who do not have real meals except in school. The city did it right – I posted about this at the very beginning of the lockdown:

Since then, the same order of things continued.

Our local school district is way smaller, and many people do not realize that we have a lot of economically disadvantaged students, I was happy that they started to deliver meals as well.
