We went to the Estonian National Opera to hear an unlikely “My Fair Lady” in Estonian. The alternative would be to go there on another day, but it was way better to go on the actual birthday. Also, since today is a US holiday, I didn’t have to work, so we could plan a no-rush return to Helsinki.
There are several photos and videos on the Opera website, but almost all of them are with different artists than the ones we heard yesterday (the ones below look like the right ones :))

The language was not a problem since I remember almost everything by heart. However, a lady who sat on my left and was local told me that the Estonian text was often different from English (there were English subtitles). The overall quality was OK. It would be better if something different would be performed, but not not like a total waste of time.
After the show, we went for dinner to Old Hansa, I Medieval-style restaurant in the center of the Old Town. I remember the time when we took Anna and Vlad to Tallinn during their graduation trip, and Vlad refused to eat there because they said they didn’t serve anything that was not present on the menu before Columbus, and Vlad said he didn’t want to eat 500-year-old food 🙂
We had a Chef’s Feast, which included sampling dozens and dozens of different dishes, but all in quantities small enough to allow us to try everything.
I just looked through the rest of the pictures, and they are less appealing because I forgot to take them before we started consuming the food, so I am not going to spoil the impression 🙂
I will post more of the evening Tallinn in a separate post!
