Pullman Visitors Center And Musem

Each time Igor and I come to Pullman (and especially since it acquired the status of the National Monument), we see some new improvements. This time, we wanted to check out the new visitor’s center and its exhibits.

They are now more extensive than what they had in the old building, and the information is better organized.

Looking at this exhibit, I realized that I did not know what were George Pullman’s ideas that resulted in building this town. What was driving him? Did he have an idea of this “capitalist paradise” even before he started building his factory? Many details of the city planning seem to be borrowed from the works of utopists and I am wondering whether it was all cold-heartedly calculated profitability or a desire to prove to somebody that “this could work?”
