Kitchen Update

I won’t call it remodeling, but two things out of the three I wanted to do are completed.

The kitchen was the last space that needed painting, and I held off last summer because I didn’t decide on the color. This spring, I was ready, and I love the way the kitchen looks now!

It also worked perfectly that now I work in the office where they feed me:), so I had no problem with not having a kitchen for two days. It was for the third time that these painters did some job in my house and each time I admire the quality of their work. The trimming, and all these small details – everything is perfect. Also, they clean up the area after the job is done. They even take down the pictures and put them back!

Also, I replaced the fridge. The reasons were that the one I had was an original one, from 2005, and sometimes it would produce weird noises. It could die at any moment, and since I do not have a second fridge here, I didn’t want to face the situation when I have an emergency and need to buy something with no time to think and compare.

Another reason was that I wanted to have some modernization. I really wanted to have a sound alarm when the doors are not closed (I have a constant problem with that). Also, I finally wanted to have a source of fresh water.

I knew that I was limited by the space, and I realized that I had to give up on most of the advanced models because of that. I had a similar problem in Palatine, so I used to think about it as a given until Boris reminded me that hee, it’s just a shelf and it can be moved!

He moved it up when he came in May, and although we ended up with a model just a little bit higher than my previous fridge, it still gave me the freedom to choose :).

It was the first time that I switched from Home Depot to Lowes, and I could not be happier! The delivery in comparison with the HD one, was night and day! With my third-floor walk-up, it was so easy and efficient, and fast, so professional – I could not believe it!

There was only one thing I overlooked – I forgot that these models do not hold magnets on the front, and the sides here are out of reach, so I do not know what my girls are going to to! I purchased a magnetic board, but still can’t find a place to mount it!

The last thing I need is a stove replacement: I want to switch to the induction one, but that’s a bigger project, so I might hold off till July… which is not that far away!

    1. It took me some time to get used to the fact that I did not need to turn the kitchen faucet on and wait for the water to become cold for ten minutes!
